Our Story of Growth: How Arrow Nurtures Success For Our Partners

A Business Person Showing Metalworking Growth - Arrow Machine And Fabrication Group

Arrow Machine and Fabrication Group began with a vision to strengthen the metalworking industry, protect its supply chain, and enhance our ability to deliver high-quality solutions to customers on an unprecedented scale.

Although our brand might be relatively new, our roots in metalworking go back to 1923. But we’ll start our story in 1977, when our President and CEO Mike Ritchie launched CGL Manufacturing Inc., our anchor company.

Envisioning Success On A Worldwide Scale

CGL Manufacturing Inc. was a globally respected supplier of high-quality machine and fabrication solutions to OEMs in agriculture, rail, construction, mining, and other industries.

Headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, it grew from three engineers to over 300 craftspeople across two manufacturing facilities in Canada and China, specializing in the assembly, machining, fabrication, and painting of powertrain and structural components for leading firms in agriculture, construction, defence, energy, forestry, heavy truck, material handling, mining, and rail.

CGL was a massive success, generating over $75 million in revenue, but Mike had a bigger vision: to create a network of metalworking companies that could pool their capabilities to provide their customers with access to additional solutions all under one brand. This innovative approach to acquisition, retention, and growth would also help strengthen the industry’s supply chain and build organic, sustainable profits for all stakeholders.

To fulfill his vision, Mike created the Arrow Machine and Fabrication Group and invited best-in-class OEM suppliers to join his new enterprise under its three new divisions.

Arrow Off-Road

The first division launched under the new Arrow brand was Arrow Off-Road, which was formed by merging CGL with the OEM Manufacturing division of a newly acquired company, Steelcraft Inc.

Steelcraft was a design, engineering, and customized metal fabrication solution provider launched in 1923. Over the course of its long history, it had established itself as a leading provider of fabrication and assembly solutions to global OEMs across the chemical, commercial, construction, defence, energy, industrial, mining, and water treatment industries. Its merger with CGL established this division as a world-class supplier of OEM parts and equipment.

In 2024, Arrow Off-Road formed a joint venture with The CTD Group, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, called AC Fabrication & Assembly Solutions. The CTD Group is a multi-disciplinary metal parts and equipment shop serving leading OEMs in agriculture, construction, mining, and more.

Arrow Engineered Products

Arrow Engineered Products focuses primarily on the design, fabrication, and assembly of precision-engineered metal solutions serving multiple industries, including defence, medical, chemical production, and nuclear energy.

This division resulted from the merger of the OEM Metal Fabrication and Engineered Products division of Steelcraft Inc. with VeriForm Inc., a metalworking company based in Cambridge, Ontario. VeriForm offered its customers a wealth of metalworking capabilities that few other suppliers could, making them a perfect addition to the Arrow family.

The following year, Arrow acquired a new metalworking firm into this division: Baumeier Corporation. Also located in Cambridge, it specialized in small to medium production, prototyping, and custom projects.

Arrow Automotive

The final division launched in Arrow’s initial rollout was Arrow Automotive, upon the acquisition of Kenona Industries from Kensington Capital.

Kenona is a world-class automotive parts and components manufacturing company located in Grand Rapids, Michigan – Arrow’s first official American-based enterprise. Arrow Automotive provides precision-machined solutions to leading OEM, Tier 1, 2, and 3 manufacturers of steering, powertrain, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), electric vehicle, and exhaust assemblies.

In 2024, Lumar Manufacturing was integrated into Arrow to operate within Arrow Automotive division. It also supports Kenona and other Arrow divisions with high-quality metalworking capabilities from its 25,000-square-foot, purpose-built production facility in St. Thomas, Ontario.

Launching Additional Initiatives To Fuel Growth

Arrow Precision Machining

Lumar’s numerous metalworking capabilities gave Arrow the impetus to announce the formation of its fourth division,  Arrow Precision Machining, in 2024.

Arrow Precision Machining allows Arrow’s customers in the defence, mining, industrial, oil & gas, and nuclear industries to leverage additional tech-based CNC machining, precision grinding, manual turning and milling, and inspection solutions. This new division enables Arrow to deliver projects with unparalleled speed and precision.

XGP Arrow

In 2025, Arrow announced its new strategic alliance with XGP Canada and XGP Americas, called XGP Arrow. This powerful partnership elevated Arrow’s capabilities to unprecedented heights, providing its customers with additional high-quality solutions.

XGP Arrow is a leading provider of protective packaging and sustainable packaging for Tier 1, Tier 2, and leading OEMs in the automotive and industrial sectors. Its products include automotive parts racking solutions, automotive steel racking solutions, and industrial parts racking solutions, all designed and fabricated to deliver strength, longevity, and long-lasting performance.

Unlocking The Future For Metalworking Prosperity

Arrow’s roots in our industry go all the way to 1923, but every day we feel like we’re just getting started and the future is bright ahead.

By continuing to focus on adapting to market changes, embracing new technology, creating lasting partnerships, investing in our people, customers, and communities, and partnering with other metalworking owner-operators interested in sustainable growth, our leadership knows that we’ll be creating a better tomorrow for our industry, our customers, and our team members and their families.

After all, the more we work together, the stronger we’ll all be.
